Lab Soete - Mechanics of Materials and Structures has research activities focusing on optical techniques for measuring deformations, damages, impacts and fatigue. The group has profound expertise in monitoring of deformations and damage in fiber-reinforced composites by means of embedded optical Fiber Bragg Grating sensors and alternative technologies for embedded sensors. Holographic techniques are being developed and exploited to understand the complex physical processes and dynamic events such as atomization processes, impacts, explosions, etc.
